Toyota Avalon Hybrid model of the 2013 model year Avalon uses the revised version of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive power train, similar to the one powering the 2012 model year Camry Hybrid. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rated the Avalon Hybrid as 40 mpg-US (5.9 L/100 km; 48 mpg-imp) on combined cycle, 40 mpg-US (5.9 L/100 km; 48 mpg-imp) on city, and 39 mpg-US (6.0 L/100 km; 47 mpg-imp) on highway driving. The hybrid version is scheduled to go on sale in the United States by early December 2012. The Avalon Hybrid comes with a 2.5 L inline-4 engine. When combined with the electric motor the system has a total output of 200 bhp (149 kW).
